Support for Internet Explorer

It looks like you’re using Microsoft Internet Explorer as your web browser. This is now considered ‘end-of-life’, and Microsoft is withdrawing support for it because it uses outdated technology. This means that it will no longer receive important security updates and previous bugs will not be fixed.

This means that the risk and cost are placed on service providers to develop twice for modern browsers and again for Internet Explorer. As free, modern alternatives are available for most platforms it is difficult to justify spending public money on further development.

Please see the Withdrawal of support for Internet Explorer notice from NHS Digital for more information and guidance.

Mencap Liverpool & Sefton

Mencap Liverpool & Sefton is a local learning disability charity – we’re affiliated to but independent of Royal Mencap.

We are holding an Open Afternoom on Wednesday 17th April 2024 between 1pm and 4pm.

Well we will have members of our Mencap Members Voice and our staff team available to show you around, answer any questions and let you know how to become a member, or hire a room, or work together moving forward or just to have a chat.
If you would like to come please ring Jo on 07552 345649 or email jo.bruce@mencapliverpool.org.uk

We specialise in working with adults who have mild-moderate learning disability and who often have little or no support.

We’re not a support provider –  we provide activities and services for people who don’t have a Health & Social Care budget, the services are designed as a stepping stone so that people can move on to other things once they’ve resolved their issues and built up their confidence, self-esteem, life-skills and positive support network.

What we do

Who you can refer | Outreach | Activities in Liverpool back to top

Adults (18+) who have a mild-moderate learning disability – this does not need to be diagnosed but the individual needs to consider themselves to have a learning disability.

We only work with people who live in Liverpool or Sefton.

Please don’t refer a person if they don’t have a learning disability. This delays people getting to the right help for them. Ring us if you’re not sure.

Outreach | Who you can refer | Activities in Liverpool back to top

We visit people who are referred to us – normally in their homes or somewhere local and familiar to them. During the first 6-12 weeks we work more intensively to help the person deal with the problems which triggered the referral. We normally do this by way of informal advocacy, helping the person to successfully access and engage with other agencies. We also introduce them to our activities which helps reduce their social isolation, build confidence, self-esteem and friends. Our Directions Programme helps our members to learn about all the skills they have to contribute and the different ways that people with a learning disability can get paid employment.

How to refer

Message on Facebook or email contact@mencapliverpool.org.uk. Anyone can refer as long as you have the consent of the individual- we also encourage self-referrals.
