Support for Internet Explorer

It looks like you’re using Microsoft Internet Explorer as your web browser. This is now considered ‘end-of-life’, and Microsoft is withdrawing support for it because it uses outdated technology. This means that it will no longer receive important security updates and previous bugs will not be fixed.

This means that the risk and cost are placed on service providers to develop twice for modern browsers and again for Internet Explorer. As free, modern alternatives are available for most platforms it is difficult to justify spending public money on further development.

Please see the Withdrawal of support for Internet Explorer notice from NHS Digital for more information and guidance.

Crown Green Bowling for all abilities.

It is a great sport for making new friends. It is a non-contact sport which is enjoyed by all, including people with disabilities.

Q. What is Crown Green Bowls?

Crown Green is a game played outside on a grass or all-weather surface which has a ‘crown’ or small ‘hump’ at the centre of the green.

Q. Do we need bowling shoes?

No, flat shoes or trainers are acceptable, however nothing with a heel is allowed onto the green.

Q. Do you have your own bowls or do we bring our own?

We intend to purchase a few sets of spare bowls with a range of weights, however if bowlers wish to bring their own they may do so.

Q. How does it differ from flat green?

Crown Green (unlike Flat Green) is played on a green measuring from between 32 and 45 meters and the whole green is used, including playing diagonally or around the edge. The scoring is also different inasmuch as flat green is played to a specified number
of ends or to a time limit whereas crown green continues until a score of 21 is reached.

Q. How long is a game of Crown Green Bowls?

On average it takes approximately 1hr and 15 minutes to reach a winning score of 21.

Q. Is it grass or artificial?

The Green at Mossley Hill is artificial and measures 29m x 32m.

Q. Will there be competitions

Yes, we will be holding Local and Regional competitions but also in-house for competitions for bowls members.
