Tell us a bit about you/your organisation
L8 A Better Place is the community development team at Kuumba Imani Millennium Centre. Our aim is to support people and organisations to transform the L8 area into a better place to live and work.
What sort of work do you/your organisation normally do in the community?
Our work focuses on strengthening our network of community organisations in the area, and supporting local activists who want to make positive changes in their neighbourhoods. We also work with younger people and older people throughout our projects in order to increase intergenerational cooperation and promote skill-sharing between different age groups.
How are you staying connected with the community during lockdown?
We’ve been able to stay in touch with other organisations and members of the community through a dedicated WhatsApp group that allows us to share information and links to resources with one another during lockdown. We are also sending out emails to our colleagues in other third sector job roles offering help, and making phone calls just to check in with people to make sure they’re OK.
Are you taking part in any fun activities to help you through lockdown?
Checking in with one another has been really important. We’re staying linked up with our activists, and sharing plenty of positive messages with one another on our WhatsApp groups.
Outside of work, we’ve all been catching up on plenty of television! Each of us enjoy different things but we all want to switch off at the end of the week.
Otherwise, there seem to be more online quizzes with than ever before! It’s a great way to stay in touch with family and friends, and really gets the grey matter working. Would recommend!
